Dirt Bike Tours New Zealand have heard the cries of Southland riders - Epic trail ride and enduro events are few and far between and usually involve a mammoth drive to reach.

Riding areas with challenging terrain are getting closed to the public every season, new riders who don't understand the etiquette of environmental preservation are contributing to a decline in acceptance of our presence in the mountains.

The sport is growing yet the available riding areas are shrinking.

It was once an easy task for riders to obey the golden rules out on public land:

  • Register your bike

  • Stick to the trails

  • Respect all other trail users

This was easily done because there were fun and challenging trails in abundance. The itch was scratched every time you went riding and you ended your ride exhausted, beat up and elated.

We're now trying to scratch that itch long lost by creating 'Ride Days' on our land just 3km from Queenstown town centre. If successful, we hope to host these events as often as we can to provide a sanctum of fun riding on your doorstep.

The aim is to create challenging loops, comparable with hard enduro events but in the format of a trail ride - where the pace is relaxed and the challenges are plenty. It's you and your mates versus the terrain, not versus each other.

Unsure if you're at a suitable level to participate? It doesn't matter, it's not a race. The only way you'll improve your skills is to get stuck in and figure it out! A sensational experience for the intermediate rider looking to level up a notch, or a hard enduro podium chaser looking for some epic training.

As we continue to develop these events, the riding options available to participants will grow and adapt according to the feedback we receive.
